Anyone can get the infection, but kids get it more often than adults. Kids ear infection is usually not serious and is not contagious. This infection affects children mostly because they do not have strong immune systems. According to (NIH) National Institutes of Health, five out of six kids will have at least one ear infection by the time they are on their third birthday. Bacteria or viruses cause an infection when fluids build up behind the eardrum. As a result, there is bulging and reddening of the eardrum. The middle ear is connected to the back of the throat by the Eustachian tube. When the Eustachian tube is damaged, germs can travel from the back of the throat, thus causing middle ear infections. Additionally, secretions can get trapped in the middle ear and cause the infection. Mostly, kids ear infection occur with a cold. Parents might spot some other symptoms such as ear drainage, earaches, ear tugging, trouble hearing or sleeping, poor appetite, diarrhea, and vomiting. Some children might be fussy and cry more than usual, which are also symptoms of the infection. Notably, the symptoms of ear infection depend on whether the infection is acute or chronic. The acute infection makes the kid have a fever and earache. On the other hand, a chronic infection affects hearing and makes the kid prone to other infections. -
